How to classify Beta
Oct 2 2009, 6:16 PM EDT | Post edited: Oct 2 2009, 6:16 PM EDT
Ok - this was brought up in a conversation with another fan - how should Beta be classified? One aspect is for the wiki - should I make a Beta page under the cast Bio section or a Entity page? Or put Beta in the tech/science area?

On the other issue - do you think Beta and the other objects have gender?

Really? I'd go with ENTITY for sure. All conjecture about further characteristics is a little fruitless given what little has actually been revealed in the way of plot direction. I'd wait for the rest of the first 13 episodes before making any guesses; however, Beta sounds like a girl's name... Do you find this valuable?

hehehe (sorry Beta sounds like a girl's name is funny) - I made a Beta-Like Entity page in the character section for now - we can always rename depending on what we find out - once I get more time I will start filling those pages in - I hope others want to as well ;P A definite Christmas project when I have some time...

Thanks for getting the joke! (I hope you really laughed; the alternative would have been...well, to think I was some kind of moron!) Kudos for keeping up the website. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a mercifully quick failure of an hour-long ABC fall drama so this show can take over the time slot.

Hey there, Beta is a cast member. I saw her at Pink's having a hot dog yesterday. Got her autograph! She says her contract is being picked up, and more episodes are in production.

( ha ha April Fool's = I'm in an alternate dimension, and its April over here. BTW: I know the ending to Flash Forward :-).

I will not diverge as I am apt to do and ask what is Pink's - although feel free to fill me in someone in an off topic discussion! As to trying to be serious (I know, where is the fun in that) - I wonder what sort of "footprint" Beta leaves - meaning how it/he/or the popular she shows up when certain tests are done - Do you use something more like quantum ways to describe Beta instead of biological concepts (aka species, etc.) - Guess maybe that is Wass' job if Beta is a quantum creature and not a biological one....

Pink's = a popular Hollywood hot dog stand frequented by celebrities ( as if Beta was an actor out on his/her/its lunch break :-).
Quantum mechanics is so last century :-))). Now, its all strings and membranes !!! Beta must be the projection of a being/entity/consciousness/spirit into our dimension. Think of the mice in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the Lectroids from Buckaroo Banzai (and also how the TARDIS is bigger on the inside) ... the projection of Beta into our universe is but a pinkie finger of the greater organism. Biology is Physics !!! We are composed of organs, tissues, molecules, atoms, quarks, and 'branes. We are all one, we are all the same, and we all care, love, hate, and feel guilt !!! "What if Beta was one of us? Just a slob like one of us? Just a stranger on the bus, trying to make his way home?"

If Beta (still sounds girly) is a projection from an adjascent 'brane, why bother to communicate in our universe using EM spectrum? Just a thought...

Oh, and while I'm at it, what is this claim that Beta is "organic" based on? [She] looks like pure energy as depicted. Did she, ahem, shed some kind of excretion during her travels with the "corporation?"

Beta's communication seems more like telepathy to me than EM. If Beta emitted light, why can't Jen see it ??
More importantly, why is Beta trying to communicate at all ???

No idea about organic. Maybe there are emissions (phew!) that cross over the interface, from Beta's universe to ours.
The story has been brilliantly written so far. I betcha there is a satisfying explanation to all this (?). BTW: who is the author of this series ????

Maybe Jen has the equivalent of Color blindness in regards to seeing Beta? And the series was created by James Parriott and then each episode had other writers

Have you found any more information about James Pariott ? has he conducted any interviews ?? It would be interesting to hear about his background, frame of mind, and intentions for the show.

I am still looking and trying real hard to find a way to see if he has any contact with fans and all - I have some free time finally coming and will focus on that - so far I just have the two main interviews I have found (both rather old from like May and earlier) - I'll see what can be found.... I really would like to hear from a writer's perspective : )
